A lead partner of the Skillset Media Academy Wales, the Internationally renowned University of Wales Newport offers multi-award winning courses that combine professional practice with innovation to produce creative, critically-aware graduates who are fully prepared for the industry.

The highly-reputed Newport School of Art, Media & Design is home to the departments of Design and Photography and of the Newport Film School which has built up a reputation for providing world-class film education and research. From January 2011, the Newport School of Art, Media & Design will relocate from the town campus of Caerleon to the University’s brand new £35m city centre campus, which offers a state-of-the-art learning environment.

To this end, the university produces creative, critically aware graduates who are fully prepared for the industry. They offer you the ability to develop a career in animation through specialist practical strands, in drawn, computer and 3D stop-motion, and the support of groundbreaking experimental approaches to animation.

This is framed by a comprehensive series of Animation Studies, for which Newport is a recognised centre of excellence.

Located in a region renowned for its thriving animation community, between Cardiff and Bristol, the course benefits from being one of only eight in the country to have attained a Skillset Accreditation. This means that they have excellent relations with a variety of key studios and companies. These support the students' professional practice assignments (through work placements and live projects), as well as the university's guest lecturer series and its own research culture.
